life. V to 12m.
Peninsula. The harbour is the richest area of the peninsula
with encrusting invertebrates, ascidians, sponges, colourful
algal and nudibranches. Best areas - The Beacons, Harrington
Point and Wellers Rock. The Mole; harbour entrance, voluntary
marine reserve. Popular diving area with sunken hulks, weed
bed, good fish life. V 3-8m. Cape Saunders - road 15km Dunedin.
Experienced divers only, cliffs drop vertically to sea floor
23m. Reefs, rocky bottom, guts, caves, holes and overhangs.
V to 18m. Seal Point - road 13km Dunedin Rocks and Bull
kelp forest to 9m. Excellent snorkeling. V 6-15m. Tow Rock
- road 13km Dunedin Weed covered rock to 9m then drops to
27m and again to 42m. Variety of fish. V 9-18m. White Island
and Green Island - 5km boat from Brighton. Scuba and snorkel
diving. Bull kelp forest and prolific fish life. Depth 3-30m.
Reef. Sea 8km from Taieri Mouth (5km offshore). Spectacular
reef at 30m plus pinnacles rising from 18-40m. V 5-18m.
