What is the PADI Instructor Development Course?
The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is an 8-day course that teaches you how to teach the PADI system in the classroom, confined water (pool) and open water. Using the modular scuba course, your PADI Course Director and IDC Staff Instructors will teach you how to conduct Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and Dive master courses. The concept is a non-stressful course which promotes better learning. The IDC is a prerequisite for the PADI Instructor Examination (I.E.). Upon successful completion of the I.E. you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

The IDC is divided into two distinct segments. The first segment is the 3-day PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) course. The second portion is the 5-day PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) course. Together the two courses combine to encompass the entire IDC. Both programs are conducted back to back and must be completed before attending the PADI Instructor Examination (I.E.). Each segment can be scheduled as a stand-alone course or completed all at one time. The IDC curriculum emphasis is focused on development, not tests or stress. This makes learning easier and more relaxed.

IDC's are taught by PADI Course Directors, these are PADI Instructors who have achieved the highest PADI rating of Master Instructor and who have attended a Course Director Training Course at PADI. The Course Director will be assisted by qualified PADI IDC Staff Instructors who have completed the PADI Staff Instructor course with a Course Director.

This program includes a classroom session and two nitrox dives. Each candidate will receive an Enriched Air Instructor Specialty Card from PADI International. This course teaches you all about Enriched Air and covers the standards and procedures of how to conduct this very popular course. The Specialty Instructor Courses give you the opportunity to observe and demonstrate role-model academic presentations, experience the open water dives required in the particular specialty as well as actually conduct portions of these dives.
